Porpoises - the small whale

Porpoises - the small whale
Porpoises are the only whales that breed in Danish waters. It's cousin with the dolphins, but has a different behavior. It is more timid.
Whales are mammals that breathe with lungs as we humans. They viviparous and although porpoises breeds and live the entire life under water, so be it periodically to the surface and pulling the air.
The blowhole, which is equivalent to our nose, sits on top of the porpoises head, so it does not need to get the entire head above water to breathe.
Although porpoises are very common in Danish waters, it's actually not much we known about this small whale. Therefore, the Fjord & Belt received permission from the Forest and Nature Agency to keep the 3 porpoises in captivity for research purposes.
Since then, two of the porpoises had a calf. It is the first porpoise who have survived birth in captivity.
